Food Appreciation Day | Supporting the Eric Miles Cheshire Home

At the end of May, our Digi colleagues turned meals into meaning by partnering with the Eric Miles Cheshire Home (EMCH) to celebrate Food Appreciation Day.

As part of our quarterly initiative, the Digi Café redirects our energy and funds of making delicious staff lunches and donates these to a meaningful local cause. This quarter, we supported the EMCH, which is on our doorstep – a short five-minute drive from the DigiOutsource office.

The dedication of the EMCH

The EMCH is a well-known and respected non-profit, dedicated to providing full-time accommodation and care for up to 40 adults living with a variety of physically disabilities. Named in honor of Eric Miles, a philanthropist committed to serving those in need, the Home fosters a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes residents’ independence and quality of life within a warm, homelike setting. With comprehensive 24-hour physical care, it’s a home away from home and includes all meals, beverages and snacks, while ensuring the wellbeing and comfort of its residents.

A global legacy

Celebrating nearly five decades of service, EMCH will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year, a testament to its longstanding commitment to community care.

The legacy of Cheshire Homes began in 1948 with Group Captain Leonard Cheshire, who established the first home in Hampshire, UK. His compassionate act of caring for a terminally ill ex-serviceman sparked a global movement to provide residential care for disabled individuals. The organization quickly expanded, opening its first overseas home in Mumbai, in 1955, followed by its first South African home in Queensburgh in 1968. Today, Cheshire Homes has six branches and sixteen homes across South Africa.

Globally, Cheshire Homes operates more than 500 service centres, continuing Leonard Cheshire’s vision of empowering disabled people to lead more independent and fulfilling lives.

DigiOutreach is proud to support EMCH and its invaluable work, reinforcing our commitment to supporting a remarkable organization making a significant local impact.
