One of the founding tenets of the BW Cares Foundation is the belief that real change begins at the community level. That’s why BW Cares is proud to support Ntsika Ye Sizwesethu, a dynamic NGO based in Johannesburg’s Alexandra Township, whose inspiring work is shaping a better future for thousands.
Dedicated to tackling food insecurity and uplifting youth, Ntsika Ye Sizwesethu has become a force to be reckoned with in the community. With initiatives ranging from vertical farming to social outreach, their impact continues to grow – literally. Thanks to a donation from the BW Cares Foundation, the organisation will soon be upgrading its greenhouse facilities, enhancing their ability to grow fresh produce sustainably.
But the support didn’t stop there. During a site visit on Tuesday 8 April, BW Cares also handed over a brand-new vehicle to help the NGO extend its reach and deepen its impact. The car will allow staff and volunteers to better access hard-to-reach areas, deliver supplies and expand outreach efforts across Alexandra and beyond.
“We mainly focus on social impact and creating food security in Alex,” explained Thato Mokwebo of Ntsika Ye Sizwesethu. “Our goal is to expand even further, to feed more people, as many as we possibly can.”
The NGO’s innovative vertical farming pods currently grow around 160 vegetables at a time. The harvested produce is then sold to purchase non-perishable goods for their community soup kitchen, ensuring that food support is both immediate and sustainable.
For BW Cares, the decision to support this initiative was an easy one. “We’re excited to be here today,” said Nomvelo Buthelezi of BW Cares, “mainly because this organisation focuses on the youth unemployment crisis facing the township of Alexandra. We thought we could tap in and assist where we can, allowing them to focus on what matters.”
The handover was a moment of celebration, gratitude, and renewed hope.
“I have no words,” laughed Mokwebo. “I even wrote a speech, knowing I wouldn’t have words.”
“It’s only the beginning,” Mokwebo continued. “We aim to do so much more when it comes to social impact. There’s a long way to go but we’re just happy that we could start here and help the people in Alex.”
For Ntsika Ye Sizwesethu’s Gcina Twala, the donation is a turning point.
“We’ve always wanted to do more events, to reach more people, and that’s definitely possible now that we’ve got a set of wheels, thanks to BW Cares. Cheers to a wonderful partnership.”
We’re proud to play our part in Ntsika Ye Sizwesethu’s mission to upgrade their greenhouse facilities and provide the means to further extend their impact of tackling food insecurity and youth upliftment.
