The Matshemhlophe Water Project

In the village of Matshemhlophe, in the Province of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, 4,000 residents now have access to clean drinking water. The community members had relied on and consumed unsafe water while navigating unsafe areas just to collect the water. However, after the recent installation of a solar water pump, possible due to a donation of R1,570,000 from Raging River, that has all thankfully changed.

Women and girls no longer have to walk long distances daily to fetch water, waterborne diseases are a thing of the past and there is sufficient water for daily needs like bathing, cooking, washing and growing their own crops.

Every day, the system delivers 86,000 litres of clean water to 20 taps via 2,270 kilometres of piping. This development has positively impacted education, economic progress, and the villagers’ health. Matshemhlophe Village is now flourishing, demonstrating the transformative power of clean water.

To date Raging River has contributed to four villages in KwaZulu-Natal and have identified another village in Mpumalanga for the construction of a solar water pump in 2025.
